The local village of Glasson (5 miles/8km), known as ‘the village of the roses’ has Spollen’s supermarket / deli / off licence / post office / Top service station and it has two attractive pubs-‘Grogan’s’ and ‘The Villager’-both serve excellent food. It also has the award winning ‘Glasson Village Restaurant’ and a short distance away is the noted “Wineport Restaurant” located on the lakeshore. There is also a hairdressers, pharmacy, craft shop and a tourist information centre in the old school house. Across the lake is The Hodson Bay Hotel and the ‘Bay Water Sports Centre’
Athlone Town (11 miles/18km) has Athlone Castle and Visitor Centre, rail and bus station, taxis and an abundance of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pubs including Sean’s Bar on the river bank – the oldest pub in Europe.
There is a choice of two 18 hole golf courses nearby * Glasson Golf and Country Club and Athlone Golf Club at Hodson Bay * Both located on the lakeshore and accessible by road or by boat.
